We were happy to temporarily remove these policies for the last two years given the fact that the pandemic induced financial insecurity and stress for many of our tenants. We did not want to put an added burden or lose tenants during that time of uncertainty due to financial reasons. Our goal is not to lose tenants! However, given the return to normal business operations, we are confident that we can implement these policies without harming tenants.

We have been communicating with current tenants about this policy change via letters, notices and phone calls. Although we are excited to be back in business with very relaxed covid constraints, we also need to return these procedures to our operations that were lifted because of the pandemic.
We are proud that we are one of the last storage facilities to reinstate these policies in bringing back late fees, and we’re thankful for our Dillingham Self Storage tenants who have been loyal to us over the last two years! It has not been an easy decision to reinstate these old policies.

Self Storage Units in Peak Demand
in Self-Storage in HonoluluThe self storage units here at Dillingham are in high demand. There are times when we only offer a few sizes because most of our units are occupied. Typically when this occurs, we can only offer the large units to new tenants. This is because the small and medium-sized units are usually sold out. The smaller units are typically more popular compared to the larger units.
Self Storage Units and Good Customer Service
Paulina was one of those new tenants that needed a unit during our peak summer season. She was in need of a small unit just to store a few valuable items while her home was under renovation. At the time, we could only tour a large unit for her. She was interested in a smaller unit because she did not have that many items that needed to be in storage. Although we try our best to offer customers the best fit, sometimes we are unable to do that, especially in peak season. We gave her a few recommendations for nearby storage facilities because we don’t like to see customers spend money on an expensive large unit that they do not need. Paulina returned after 2 hours and said she loved our service so much that she wanted a large unit with us! We were surprised but Paulina preferred a facility with quality customer service, which is exactly what we offer! We were so delighted when Paulina came back to sign a lease for a large unit with us.

Monthly storage units can be incredibly cost-effective compared to renting retail space. Storage is also great for reserving supplies and inventory that do not need to be customer front-facing. Our units also offer great security benefits that sometimes exceed those of common retail spaces. For example, we have security cameras in addition to numerous security checkpoints to enter your unit. This is far more than the common glass-covered retail storefronts.
Storage Units for Advocacy Four Inc.
Advocacy Four Inc. is a digital media group from Kaua’i. They are offering summer programs for middle school students at Hawaii Community College this summer. They stopped by one day interested in a storage unit to safely store their technology equipment. Their initial plan was to only offer summer sessions. However, they are expanding and looking to offer sessions in the fall as well. This storage unit would be a great asset in preventing them from having to transport equipment from Kaua’i to O’ahu in between sessions. We are like their home away from home!

Charles was looking for a unit with us recently. We only had large sizes available at the time. Although he was not looking for a large unit, this actually worked out in his favor. His plan was to share a large unit with his coworker since the company was covering the bill for the unit. Charles and his worker were recently at a big chain storage facility. They had been there for a while. They both toured our facility and were very impressed with our cleanliness and competitive pricing. We are assuming that the increase in demand for kayak storage stems from these unfortunate circumstances. in Self-Storage in HonoluluDillingham Self Storage holds auctions in person. Most storage facilities are only holding online auctions. We advertise our auctions in the legal classified section of the newspaper. This is where people can find details about the units up for auction. All auction participants must register at www.selfstorageauction.com. The structure of our auction requires that 15% of the winning bid fee must be paid online through this website using a credit card. The remaining balance is then paid at the storage facility office in cash. The website also offers added benefits, such as viewing auctions all over the island.
Dillingham Self Storage Auction Registration
By registering on the website, you can also participate in auctions held all over the island from the comfort of your own home. This makes it very convenient for individuals to participate in auctions that may be a far drive from them. We only hold these auctions after a tenant has not paid rent for a significant amount of time. Laws differ in each state but dates range from 30 – 90 days after an overdue rent payment. We then auction the individuals’ items to make room for a new tenant to rent the unit.

Greg was touring a storage facility nearby. He needed a unit for his part time job and to conveniently store his equipment. Greg stopped by Dillingham Blvd. Self Storage and we gave him a tour of our facilities. He was appreciative of our customer service and thanked us for being so helpful. Greg commented that other facility tours were not nearly as helpful or comprehensive and that their customer service was seriously lacking. When he stopped by Dillingham next, he was quick to make a decision! We gave him a tour and he immediately knew that he wanted to sign a lease with us. Dillingham Self Storage offers an insurance policy to tenants for an additional price. We facilitate this through a third party insurance agent, MiniCo Tenant Insurance. They offer various policies that could best fit your storage needs. You would pay a monthly premium on top of your unit rent charges. MiniCo will cover your property against burglary, storms, smoke, fire, rodents and much more.
Private Insurance Option
Another option for renters is to bypass this third party vendor and acquire insurance through their own renters’ or homeowners’ insurance. Some renters’ insurance policies will cover your storage unit against various unfortunate circumstances. However, we recommend asking about this as not all common renters’ insurance policies have this option. There also may be limits to what these policies cover in the case of an emergency.
Waiving Insurance
The last option is to completely waive insurance. However, we advise against this. Although Dillingham Self Storage is a gated and secure property, there has been a significant rise in crime in dense business areas. Therefore, it’s a very good idea to have some kind of insurance to protect against an unexpected incident.

Dillingham Self Storage Holidays

Each member of the office staff was designated a tree to decorate and had $50 to spend on decorations. The only rule was not to surpass the $50 budget. Customers who came into the office voted on their favorite tree. We love engaging in a friendly Christmas competition with office staff and especially love it when our customers play a part!
Dillingham Self Storage Customer Voting
Juli is a regular print shop customer of ours. We print and laminate menus and table numbers for her restaurant every few months. She placed an order for these while our Christmas trees were up. Juli was so excited to partake in the voting. Juli even stopped by the following week to contribute some gift certificates to the prize fund. Juli loves seeing a decorated office with all this Christmas cheer! Juli is such a sweetheart and we appreciate her positive spirit. We highly recommend checking out her restaurants, Pancakes and Waffles in Kalihi or Kaneohe Pancake House for some onolicious pancakes. We promise you will not be disappointed!
