Response to COVID-19

Dillingham Self Storage has felt the impact of the COVID-19 pandemic. We hope that everyone is staying safe and healthy during this time of uncertainty. Mayor Kirk Caldwell recently declared a state wide shutdown of non-essential businesses. Thankfully, we are considered an essential business because we serve as storage units for medical supplies. We also provide necessary supplies for essential businesses to stay running. Hence, we are still open for business. However, we have taken some precautions to keep our staff and tenants safe from the COVID-19.

Dillingham Self Storage New Office Hours

Our new temporary office hours are Monday-Friday 10-6pm, Saturdays 12pm-5pm and still closed on Sundays. While the office is closed, the restroom in the facility will remain locked. Tenants coming in to visit their unit after office hours will not have access to this restroom. Access hours to the storage units in the facility are the same, 7 days a week from 6am to 9pm.

Change in Operations

We have also made some changes to our operations in the front office for the time being. The computers in the front office are no longer available for use by tenants. We have closed those off for the time being. We are also taking extra precautions in addition to our office hygiene routine to sanitize high-traffic surfaces around the facility such as door handles, elevator buttons, counters and keypads. We are also enforcing social distancing by limiting the number of customers in the office to a maximum of two. There are instructed lines taped on the ground outside the office to maintain the recommended 6’ social distance outside of the facility for those who are waiting to enter.

Online Payments Encouraged

Our payment system has remained the same for tenants at Dillingham Self Storage. Tenants can pay online or in person. However, we encourage everyone to pay online if possible. However, we will still accept payment in person. We can also accept payment over the phone by debit/credit card.

Storage Units in High Demand

Storage units are in high demand in the months leading up to the summer, and especially during the summer. Everyone is moving, it’s house-buying season and people are requesting storage units. High demand means that we have a wait list. We recommend getting on our wait-list for sizes that are not available. There are some units that are more popular than others, depending on the time of year.

Storage Units Wait-List

Our unique move-out policy does not require a notice of move out. Just that you are completely moved out by the end of the month, with the lock on the unit removed. Talk to our staff to get more details on this. This policy can make it hard to tell which units will be available each month. For example, we recently had several move outs along with an auction that released many storage units all at once. We were able to get several people off the wait-list and transferred into these units that were not previously available. This is why it is important to get yourself on the wait-list if you want a storage unit that is not available right now! It could open up at any moment.

Give us a call if you are interested in our other services, like truck rentals or print services, at our Dillingham Self Storage facility.

Shirley’s New Unit at Dillingham Storage

Shirley has been a tenant with Dillingham Storage since 2012. That’s 8 years with us! She has held one of our larger units for quite some time now. We are happy to have her around. Shirley stopped by one day to see if she could secure a lease on two more units of the same size. We gave her a tour of what we had available.

Two Units at Dillingham Storage

She explained to us that she actually had two units at another facility and has wanted to move over to Dillingham Storage for a long time but has not had the time or manpower. We know moving can be stressful and time consuming. Sometimes it does not all happen on our watch as we would like. Shirley was happy with the units she saw at our facilities and finally made the decision. She was unhappy with the lack of customer service at her other storage facility, even though she was one of their long-time storage tenants. Customer service is a priority to us!

Shirley decided to move in with us full time and keep her storage units with us. We are happy she made the decision because now we get to see her more often!

Move Out Policy at Dillingham Self Storage

Here at Dillingham Self Storage, our move out policy is simple. We do not require an advance notice of move out. We know a moving process can be stressful, so we want to make it as easy as possible for you. We are aware that most storage facilities require a 30 day written or oral notice of terminating the storage lease. However, we do not.

Vacate by the First

We operate on month to month leases at our facilities. If a storage customer has all of their items vacated from their unit and the lock is not on the storage unit by the first of the month, we consider that to now be a vacant unit. That tenant will not be responsible for the next month’s storage rent. We do not prorate our storage leases which follows in line with our storage policy for a tenant to be out on the first. We advise customers to plan their move out toward the end of the month because of this policy.

Dillingham Self Storage Move Out Process

We make sure to notify our tenants about the move out process while we are touring them around the facility. At Dillingham Self Storage, we walk all floors and aisles twice daily, and this is how we know that a customer has moved out. If you are moving out, make sure to not only vacate your unit but also remove the lock from the door of your unit so we know that you have officially moved out!

We also offer moving trucks at our facilities to make your move out process even easier!

Storage PODs at Dillingham

Storage comes in handy, especially when it can move with you! POD containers are popular moving tools. They can assist you in a big move, or a small move. We have had several past tenants order these moving containers to help with moving. We do allow POD drop offs on property, but we have some rules before getting started.

Scheduling Storage Containers

Due to physical constraints of the property, we can only allow one container per day. We ask that the container be picked up the same day it is dropped off and that it is no longer than 20’ in length. Please coordinate with us in advance to assure that there are no other containers arriving on property that day. Also, there is a specific entrance and area for the movers to enter and exit on property, so to allow for the flow of traffic around the building to continue.

POD Drop Off for Liz

A past tenant of ours, Liz, scheduled a POD drop off. She was clear and concise in her communication and played an active role with scheduling the POD. She had the most efficient process and it was the fastest container drop off and pick up we have ever had! We use Liz as an example to other tenants who are thinking of ordering a container!

We also offer other services, such as printing and truck rentals, all on the same property!

Customers at Dillingham Self Storage: Liz

Moving containers can be useful for moving your items out of self storage. We have a specific procedure regarding container or POD drop offs on property. We have to plan accordingly to accommodate containers on property because they take up a considerable amount of space. If you are thinking about leasing a POD to assist in moving your items, talk to us so we can help you with that!

Coordinating PODs and Self Storage

Liz has been a self storage tenant with us for a while now. She called to let us know about her POD container drop off that was to be arriving soon. These PODs are popular and useful, especially if you have many items sitting in one central location at our facilities. We helped Liz with her POD drop off and coordinated with her moving company to get that taken care of.

Thank you, Liz!

Upon moving out, Liz had very kind words to share with our team. She commented on our clean facilities and that she appreciated our help with coordinating her POD container drop off. We care about our facility and our tenants! We will miss you Liz but are very grateful for your kind words!

We also offer other services, such as van rentals and printing, all on the same property! Check out our sites for more information.

Customer Spotlight: Pearl

Our Dillingham storage business has been open for a long time. We have had tenants and customers with us since our very first day along with those who come and go periodically. We have expanded our business to include a print shop as well as our own fleet of rental vans and trucks. It’s been great growing our business.

Long Time Dillingham Storage Customer

Pearl was one of those customers that started with us in the very beginning. She was one of our first tenants upon opening the storage facility. She left the islands some time later and closed out her unit with us. However, she recently has started her move back to the islands – because who can resist Hawai’i! She checked in on us and asked about availability to start planning her move. Storage units can be useful when planning a big move to hold large items while in the process of finding a place. Pearl was a big fan of our Dillingham storage facilities and we were her top choice for a storage venue. However, she noticed our rates had increased since she last saw us. Hawai’i is an expensive place to live and operate a business, and over the years our demand has grown. Regardless, Pearl is still aiming to store with us for her upcoming move. We’re happy to have you back, Pearl!

Self Storage for Downsizing

Self storage can be a great help during a big move, especially if you are downsizing your living arrangements. For most that are moving to Hawaii, whether for work or any other reason, you are most likely going to downsize your square footage. Housing is in high demand and at a high cost here. Hence, be prepared to downsize.

Lisa’s Self Storage Process

Lisa recently moved here from Seattle and was going through the same downsizing process. She needed storage for most of her things because she was moving into a smaller place compared to her original home in Seattle. She did her research into storage facilities and gave us a call when she was ready to come look at the place. Lisa commented on how thorough our website and how helpful our ohana was on this search process.

Moving and Downsizing

In the moving process, she was unsure of when the movers would be moving her things into the storage unit so she had to put the unit on hold. Lisa was mindful of our business and did not want us to hold it for too long, but we wanted to help her out. She was listing all of the things she had to do before moving here and we decided to hold the unit for as long as she needed! Lisa was very appreciative of our help and she is now moved into her new storage unit and ready for her new beginning!

Dillingham Self Storage Clean Facilities

We have had our Dillingham Self Storage facilities for almost ten years now. We’ve been open for a while so we’ve worked on perfecting our business processes and getting everything just right for our clients. Some things we prioritize are security, safety and cleanliness. We invest in 24 hour surveillance systems, security guards and thorough cleaning procedures. We are proud of it, and happy when people take notice of it!

Clean Facility

Lisa just moved to the islands from the mainland. Her movers hadn’t even moved her things into her home yet before she came to see us. She inquired about a unit because she knew her new home would not fit all of her belongings. Lisa commented on our clear communication over the phone and that’s what piqued her interest to come into our facility. When she stopped by for a tour, she loved how clean it was. She actually thought we were a brand new facility because of the facility’s hygiene! We love it when people notice our hard work.

Lisa’s Dillingham Self Storage Unit

Lisa decided to sign a lease with us because she was so happy with what she saw on her tour. We’re happy to welcome Lisa, someone who recognizes how hard we work to keep Dillingham Self Storage in tip top shape!

Moving Vans

Our self storage is also equipped with moving vans and box vans for rent. These can be very useful for moving, like in Lisa’s case.
