We’ve gotten to know some of the individuals “behind the scenes” at Grace Bible Church central over the past few years by helping them with printing and storage.
Grace Bible Church has been a storage tenant with us since 2013. They initially leased a small 5 x 7.5 unit, however their Church membership has since grown in size hence they now lease two storage spaces: a 10 x 15 and a 5 x 5.
They are also one of our few tenants that makes use of every service that we have to offer. In addition to storage, they rent one of our Uhaul trucks each week and also have weekly printing jobs. They host Sunday school at Lanakila elementary school and use our trucks to help transport items.
Since they’ve been printing with us every week, one of their helpers that comes in now does his own printing with the Dilly Print Shop as well.
Their print jobs typically consist of weekly messages, notes, programs or bible scriptures for the week. Every few weeks we help them with prayer cards and communication cards.
We love seeing them come in every week, usually we see their helper Reyes and we’ve gotten to know a few others pretty well! They’ve commented on several accounts how convenient Dillingham Blvd. Self Storage is for them because it serves as a one-stop shop for all of their needs – storage, printing, and transportation!
We love ya tuts!
in Self-Storage in HonoluluHere at Dillingham Blvd Self Storage, we’re proud to say we have our own “typical tutu lady” who visits us quite frequently, and that’s Barbara Jean. Most of us call her Aunty BJ.
Aunty BJ has been a tenant with us since 2009. She started off with a standard 10 x 15 unit then later picked a smaller 10 x 15. She’s here almost every day, it’s safe to say about 4x a week. She likes to bring candies and “goodies” for us with every visit. It’s like she’s become “one of the aunties” in the office. Aunty BJ is here for every birthday and office party we have. She’s an active 75 year old. Sometimes she just visits us to hang out, even if she’s not checking in to her storage unit.
Aunty BJ helps around the office. When she’s free she’ll help us with cleaning by sweeping throughout the building and even outside and cleaning our bathrooms, too. When she notices that we’re having a busy day of customers, she’ll even chat with some of them until our staff members are available to attend to them.
Aunty BJ has such an outgoing and fun personality, we love having her around! She’s always making funny remarks while talking to our staff like occasionally scolding us with, “you know you’re not right, right.” We’ve gotten so close to her that sometimes we even call her “Tuts!” We love ya Tuts!
Chocolate On A Mission
in Self-Storage in HonoluluCrystal, a tenant of ours, works for “Chocolate on a mission.” She’s been with us since 2013 and we’ve gotten to know her pretty well over the years. She’s befriended everyone in the office and we’re really proud at how far she’s come, spiritually, as an individual. We order chocolates from her all the time and talk story while enjoying them!
Chocolate On A Mission, a Honolulu-based non-profit organization, fundraises for the River of Life Mission. The River of Life Mission aims to rescue, rehabilitate and reintegrate the homeless, impoverished, low-income families and elderly of Hawaii. They serve over 15,000 meals per month, with their “food box” program feeding 2,000 meals to low-income families each month. A majority of these meals go to children. The non-profit also oversees the Lighthouse Outreach Center, a shelter based in Waipahu that provides social services, case management along with a place to sleep and evening meals.
As part of their “rehabilitation” aim, they operate two residential homes: House of Hope and Destiny House. The homes offer counseling and rehabilitation services to help men and women build competency to live a healthy life off the streets.

Tony at FedEx
in Self-Storage in HonoluluDillingham Self Storage offers multiple services for its tenants, one of which is accepting mail for tenants with businesses. We receive pallets, packages and multiple boxes for our tenants.
FedEx is typically the delivery service and Tony is usually their driver. Tony delivers for FedEx about every day. He provides great service for all of our tenants and loves to talk story with us when he stops by! “Everybody knows everybody” is a phrase we like to use in describing our relationship with him because we’re always talking about families and new happenings.
Tony always makes sure packages and boxes are delivered on time. On one occasion he was delivering a pallet of goods but because of how it was structured the goods were shrink-wrapped and strapped to the palette. It made it very difficult to deliver it carefully without damaging the goods inside. Tony needed a forklift to lift the pallet. Fortunately we had electricians working on the roof of our building that day using forklifts to carry equipment around. Tony waited for the electricians so he could use their forklift to carefully lift the palette off and deliver it inside.
We appreciate Tony for all that he does, and for talking story with us with each of his visits! Dillingham Self Storage loves you Tony!

Grace & Jordan
in Self-Storage in HonoluluWe love making new friends that don’t want to leave us, especially our friends Grace and Jordan, local business owners who couldn’t say goodbye!
Grace and Jordan own and operate “Best Day Ever Weddings Linen and Décor,” a business specializing in linen backdrops and linen decorations for weddings and formal events. They have done work for local high school proms as well as weddings.
They store their work materials in their own home but because their house was being fumigated they needed a small space to store all of their linen decorations. On the last day of their lease, they wanted to renew it realizing that the extra storage space was convenient for their lifestyle and business. It held all of their materials and they could easily access them at any time! However, the smaller size they wanted wasn’t available as the last one was already leased out.
Grace and Jordan found a new self-storage place that offered what they wanted, but they still wanted to stay at Dillingham.
“I didn’t want to go to this new place,” Jordan said.
Their luck came around on the same day when the 5 x 5 storage here opened up and Grace and Jordan rushed back to sign their September lease!
Hot wheels with Uhaul
in Self-Storage in HonoluluWe’re #1. And by that, we mean we’re currently the #1 rated Uhaul truck dealer for Hawaii. Of course self-storage is our forte, but we can multi-task more than you think.
As an authorized Uhaul truck dealer, we rent out 3 vans, 3 pickup trucks, one 10’ box truck and one 15’ box truck. Rentals are not limited to tenants. Anyone on the island can rent one of our Uhaul trucks. Come one, come all!
Our rentals are a flat-rate charge per day. Cargo vans and pickup trucks are $19.95/day plus 79 cents per mile. Larger box trucks are priced at a higher rate.
We ask our customers to take surveys after returning the trucks (and not to brag, but we’ve got a consistent 4 star average on the 5 star scale). The survey ratings are posted on Uhaul’s main website here: http://www.uhaul.com/Locations/customer-reviews-for-Dillingham-Blvd-Self-Storage/006378/.
The annual Made in Hawaii festival is a hot event for customers as reservations fill up quickly for our Uhaul trucks – make sure to place a reservation as early as possible!
The Dillingham location is very convenient, accessible and easy to find. Loading and unloading is not a problem with our spacious parking lot.

The auction
in Self-Storage in HonoluluLast week we held an auction at our Dillingham location to help clear the items of a late tenant. By law, we are required to auction the items of a tenant who has not made a payment in 80 days. We sold the items to the highest bidders and the revenues funded the balance that the tenant owed.
Our usual buyers are very kind in that they’ll turn in pictures or frames to the office so they can be returned to its original tenant.
Typically we’ll host one every 2-3 months, and usually we have the same bidders attend each one. You can check the Legal Classified section of the local newspaper to check for when our next one will be.
We don’t like cleaning.
in Self-Storage in HonoluluNo one likes cleaning. Not even us. That’s why we contacted our friends at Windward’s Window Cleaner to help us out!
Our 6 a.m. appointment with Windward’s Window Cleaner began with them cleaning the glass windows all the way up to our fourth floor. They also pressure-washed the concrete floor outside as well as the parking lot, the sidewalks in front of our building and the area behind our building.
We were amazed at the results since our parking lot looked good as new when they were done.
Windward’s offered the best price while we were scouting for estimates, and the results spoke for themselves!
This is the first time we’ve used Windward’s Window Cleaner but it definitely won’t be the last!
Moving with Johnny the great
in Self-Storage in HonoluluWe know that moving is stressful. From packing up your house to unpacking in your new home, it’s a long process.
That’s why we refer our tenants to Moving services by Johnny, a professional moving service in Honolulu.
A new tenant, Donna, is in the middle of moving between homes and hired Johnny. She gave him the keys to her home and he took care of everything else. Johnny managed to pack up her old home and deliver all of her boxes to us for storage.
Donna was very pleased with his service as all of her belongings were safely packed and delivered.
The stressful move she had planned for wasn’t so stressful after all.
Most tenants choose to move themselves or invest in other movers, but we’ve been referring our tenants to Moving services by Johnny for the past 6 years and have received nothing but excellent reviews. Even when Johnny’s services missed a bag, they brought it to our office for her.
Donna’s moving journey was far more convenient and easier than she had expected it to be, a model of how we want your experience at Dillingham to be.
Animal lovers love self storage, too
in Self-Storage in HonoluluHere at Dillingham Self Storage, we’re more than just self storage units in Hawaii. We’re animal lovers, too.
A few weeks ago we had an odd run-in with a kitten stuck in the lining of the bed of one of our Uhaul rental trucks. We deemed it a rescue mission and spent hours trying to save the lost kitten.
First, we called the Honolulu Uhaul office to send a maintenance representative to help us remove the cat from the truck. Uhaul sent two employees to help in removing the lining of the bed so the cat could be let out. The kitten darted across our parking lot once we freed it and managed to trap itself in a nearby vehicle again. This time it was a tenant’s car and we had to ask him to help us out in removing the feline from underneath this car.
We called the Hawaiian Humane Society and they brought two vans of helpers to lure the kitten to safety. However for this kitten, they needed to bring in their cat whisperer. It took at least an hour to rescue the kitten.
This was the first time we met a “cat whisperer” and also the first time we had a kitten stuck in one of our vehicles.
We weren’t kitten with you when we said we’re animal lovers.
