Storage Units Sign-Up Requirements

Our storage units have some requirements due at the time of sign-up that are non-negotiable. We do this to protect ourselves and our storage customers. Those requirements include a valid ID and payment at the time of signing up. Expired IDs or passports are not accepted. Our staff always reviews these details with customers before signing up but sometimes people forget. We also do not accept fraudulent IDs.

Primary and Alternate Storage Unit Contacts

We also require primary and alternate contacts for the storage units. The primary person for the storage unit is the only person we will get in touch with for anything in regards to the storage unit. The alternate person is only contacted if the primary person is unavailable or we can’t get in touch with them. We have a rule that there is no information exchange between the office staff and the alternate contact. The primary contact is our main point of communication. If you are the alternate person, please ask your primary contact for details about your storage unit as they will have the most recent communication from us.

We also offer other services on property, like the Dilly Print Shop and Dilly Van Rentals.

Dillingham Self Storage and Vetting Movers

Dillingham Self Storage is recommending storage customers who are moving to please vet the moving company before hiring them! We have seen so many fraudulent moving companies recently active on the island. We have heard from many customers that these moving companies refuse to move their things even after they have been paid. It is devastating to hear that this is happening on our island, and especially to our customers. Some victims report losing out on their deposit and packing up all of their items just for no one to show up and move their boxes. Moving is already very stressful, but these fraudulent moving companies make the situation much worse. We encourage people to do their research on all companies. We have heard that this is even happening with some home contracting companies.

Moving Scams on O’ahu

One specific moving scam in the news recently forced customers to pay a high ransom to get their household items returned. JF Moving Services allegedly took household items from customers, then dropped them off at a storage facility. These customers had to track down their items and pay the storage facility fees to get them back. Some clients were moving off island and unfortunately had none of their goods delivered to their mainland destination. We are so disheartened to hear of this happening, which is why we are encouraging our Dillingham Self Storage customers to do their research on the moving companies!
