Dillingham Self Storage

Self Storage for Gary

Gary was looking for some self storage with us. He was an old tenant and moved out early last year. We were so happy that he came back to sign with us for a new unit! Gary had some nice things to say about our business. In a time like this that we’re living through, happy tenants help make our days brighter. If we have an old tenant moving in again with us, we know we’ve done something right. It’s also a good feeling to see an old face around here again.

Self Storage for New Tenants

Even though we have new office hours and some visiting restrictions in place, we are still leasing out storage units to new and old tenants. Give us a call at 808-841-9555 or email us at info@dillinghamselfstorage.com for more information. This is a great time to clean out the house for your new home office. Spending more time at home gives us all an opportunity to improve our home. Self storage can help with the process. We are fast over email and also quick to answer the phone!

Dillingham Storage New Rule

At Dillingham Storage we have introduced new policies for the safety of our staff and storage tenants. Our office hours have been reduced to lessen the risk of transmission. Our new hours are Monday-Friday 10-6 and Saturday 12-5. We also have enhanced our cleaning routines and closed off access to our “public-use” computers in the lobby. There is also a limited capacity in our lobby with the number of visitors. Check out our other COVID-19 rules in place here

Dillingham Storage Prioritizes Safety

We have a new rule recently implemented asking visitors who are not feeling well or recently traveled to stay home. Please do not visit the facilities or the front office if you are not feeling well or are showing symptoms. If you have traveled out of state recently, we ask that you keep out of the office. This is only in the best safety interest of our staff and our tenants. There are many businesses implementing this rule so we feel comfortable asking this of our guests. Although we require masks and social distancing on property, it’s important to keep out potentially COVID-positive individuals.

Dillingham Self Storage: Move Out Policy

We want our tenants at Dillingham Self Storage to be fully educated and informed of our policies prior to moving in. It is important for everyone involved to understand the rules to avoid late fees!

Rent is Due on the First

Rent is due on the first of every month at Dillingham Self Storage. There is a grace period of six days following the first before late fees are added. However, for the time being, due to COVID-19, we are waiving all late fees. This will extend until further announcements.

Move-out Procedures at Dillingham Self Storage

Move-out procedures require a tenant to be completely moved out by the last day of the month, whether this is the 30th or 31st or 28th of any month. If a tenant still has things in his or her unit on the 1st day of the month, then they are required to pay rent for the full month. We do not pro-rate move-out dates. For example, if you move out early on the 20th instead of the 30th in your final month, we do not offer a discount for that final month. We would only prorate move-in dates, if you are moving in after the 1st of the month. There is no possibility of rental refunds if you move out before your final date.

Dillingham Self Storage Wants You to Vote!

Dillingham Self Storage is looking forward to the upcoming mayoral election in the state. Although we do not normally endorse politicians, we are promoting Rick Blangiardi for Mayor! We encourage everyone to get out there and exercise their rights by voting. We have large banners on our building exterior to advertise this. With everything going on in the world and in our home right now, the one thing we still can do is practice our rights as citizens through voting!

Dillingham Self Storage for Rick Blangiardi

Even if people are not in favor of voting for Rick Blangiardi, we hope everyone gets out there to vote anyway. The great part about our Dillingham  Self Storage ohana is that we welcome anyone and everyone regardless of who they are supporting this election. We want everyone to feel welcomed in our facilities. After all, customer service is our top priority here at Dillingham! Even with the capacity constraints and limited visitors, we still love seeing all of our tenants and customers. It is important to us to know that anyone who walks through our doors feels welcomed into the Dillingham ohana.

Dillingham Self Storage Waives Late Fees

Dillingham Self Storage is waiving all late fees at this time and also delaying all legal auctions. Auctions are typically held in the case of continued non-payment from a tenant. These are extremely tough times and we understand that many people are unemployed due to the recent statewide shutdown. We are still obligated to send out notices to tenants in the case of non-payment but we have also communicated to these tenants that their late fees are being waived at this time. However, we ask our tenants to communicate their personal situations with us in the case of non-payment. Although the late fees are waived, we need an open line of communication as for the reason of non-payment.

Mahalo from Dillingham Self Storage

We are so lucky as a business to still be up and running and are grateful for everyone’s support during these unprecedented times. Dillingham Self Storage along with thousands of other local small businesses are living through an unstable time. Although the recent shutdown was lifted, we are still in a “tier” system and are always grateful for each day that we can remain open. We are maintaining strict capacity constraints under COVID guidelines as required by state guidelines at the time. Check out our facility rules here

Dillingham Self Storage COVID Guidelines

Dillingham Self Storage has felt the impact of the COVID-19 pandemic. We hope that everyone is staying safe and healthy during this time of uncertainty. Governor David Ige recently declared another state wide shutdown of non-essential businesses. Thankfully, we are considered an essential business because we serve as storage units for medical supplies. We also provide necessary supplies for essential businesses to stay running. Hence, we are still open for business. However, we have taken some precautions to keep our staff and tenants safe from the COVID-19.

This is a reminder of our operating restrictions under COVID. We have had these in place since March. We are taking this pandemic seriously and want our tenants to know that we are operating under strict guidelines to maintain everyone’s safety. Our new temporary office hours are Monday-Friday 10-6pm, Saturdays 12pm-5pm and still closed on Sundays. While the office is closed, the restroom in the facility will remain locked. Tenants coming in to visit their unit after office hours will not have access to this restroom. Access hours to the storage units in the facility are the same, 7 days a week from 6am to 9pm.

We have also made some changes to our operations in the front office for the time being. The computers in the front office are no longer available for use by tenants. We have closed those for the time being. We are also taking extra precautions in sanitizing high-traffic surfaces around the facility such as door handles, elevator buttons, counters and keypads. We are also enforcing social distancing by limiting the number of customers in the office to a maximum of two. There are instructed lines taped on the ground outside the office to maintain the recommended 6’ social distance outside of the facility for those who are waiting to enter. And last but not least, face masks are required at all times!

Our payment system has remained the same for tenants. Tenants can pay online or in person. However, we encourage everyone to pay online if possible. However, we will still accept payment in person. We can also accept payment over the phone by debit/credit card.

Dillingham Self Storage Best of the Best

We are happy to announce that Dillingham Self Storage placed in the top 3 for Hawaii’s Best of the Best! This is an annual contest across the islands and we are so happy that we placed 3rd this year for best storage facility. The first place award went to a chain that has 6 locations on the island. The second place award went to a facility with eleven locations on the island. We are so proud that our one locally-owned and operated placed third this year!

Thank you for voting!

The results were just released on Sunday, August 16. Dillingham Self Storage has been successful in placing in this contest for a few years in a row and we are so happy about it. Thank you to everyone for voting for us and supporting the business. We love our tenants and it’s good to know that they love us, too! We are even more elated to see this award during a time when we are unable to see and talk with many of our tenants due to capacity restrictions.

Self Storage for Working from Home

Self storage has been a hot commodity during this new wave of Working From Home (WFH.) More people in their homes means they have time to recognize all the things they have laying around! Some have gotten a storage unit for the time being just to make more room in the home in order to comfortably set up their working unit. If you’re interested to see how we’re responding to the pandemic, check out our other blog post on our new cleaning regime in place.

Working from Home

While working from home, it’s difficult but important to keep things separated from home life and work life. Jane has been a tenant with us since last year and she had a storage unit with her mom just to hold household items. She works for the City & County of Honolulu, who currently have no date to return to the office and are working from home full time at the moment. The uncertainty of returning to the office convinced her to make a comfortable and permanent work space from home. As a result, she signed up for another unit with us! She has a unit with us to store household items and free up space for an office at home. We thought this was a great idea and an easier way to keep things separated. It’s important to make room for a home office, and we love Jane’s creative idea! Self storage units are in such high demand right now that Jane picked up the last unit we had!

Dillingham Self Storage Has Demand for Smaller Units

Dillingham Self Storage has seen big changes in the world in recent times. With Hawai’i still under partial lockdown, we are maintaining our strict cleaning regime and regulations. We are limiting the number of people in the lobby at one time and have certain public areas completely closed off. The bathrooms and the computers in the lobby are unavailable for public use. We are still waiving all late fees for rent that is not paid on time. If tenants are unable to make payments on time, please give us a call and keep us informed. We like to maintain open communication with our storage tenants.

Downsizing Units for Tenants

Recently, we have seen some moving around within our facility as some tenants prefer to size down. Now that many people are at home and have spare time, they are able to clean out their storage units and really make the most of their time. We have seen many tenants request to downsize from their current unit. We are hoping to move these tenants down from their larger units into smaller, more affordable units as much as possible.

Self Storage is in High Demand

Self storage has been a hot commodity during this quarantine period. Dillingham Self Storage has seen many tenants move in – both old and new. Many tenants have had time to clean the house and get rid of old things during this “down time.” Several are returning to Dillingham after a few months out of it.

Waitlist for Self Storage

We have a waitlist to manage the high demand and high occupancy at the facility. Give us a call or send us an email to ask about our wait list!

Returning Tenants

Sam is one of our tenants who came back after being away from us for a while. Sam moved out in 2017 and came back to us recently. He called us asking for a small unit and we are so happy that we had a locker available for him! As we mentioned, we are very busy with welcoming in new tenants and always have people asking about new units. So, if you’re interested in a unit, call early! We are very happy that we had something for Sam so he could move back into our storage family. We’re glad to have you back, Sam. He is just one of many old tenants who are moving back in with us.
